Whether there are Mujahideen in Pankissk?

Vasily Saneblidze - Deputy Head of Antiterrorist center of MGB in Georgia does not exclude that among seven thousand Chechen refugees in Pankissk gorge, there are approximately 1500 efficient men, taking part in confrontation in the Chechen Republic. He said in his interview with Georgian agency of the Prime News, that in the opinion of the Russian side, these people can be "insurgents", and "gangsters", and "terrorists", but in territory of Georgia, they are no longer of that type. As a whole, according to Saneblidze, only the court can establish, whether this or that person is "terrorist". At the same time, he told, operative services have no information on a possible presence in Georgia of known Chechen commanders, including Ruslan Gelaev. Saneblidze categorically rejects statements of the Russian side that in Pankissk gorge, Chechen Mujahideen bases are founded for preparation of saboteurs. He noted that one of primary goals of operative forces is to prevent penetrations into Pankissk gorge of the weapon. In the roundabout ways it can get there, but not in the mass order, he considers. The weapon already present in this region will be withdrawn gradually, told Saneblidze. As he said, Organization of check-posts of internal armies in region in December of the last year already had positive effect. Gradual installation of check-posts to a direction of the Chechen site on Georgian border is in the plan, he told. Vasily Saneblidze emphasized that the Georgian side cooperates with Russia by way of detention and transfer of the persons investigated by law enforcement organs of this country. At the same time, as he said, quite often such persons cross border of Georgia under counterfeit passports. Representatives of the Anti-terrorist center have come across some such passports, and also the blank passports of citizens of Russia, told Saneblidze.

Vasily Saneblidze declared that the Ministry of State Security of Georgia has in due time transferred the Russian colleagues the data available at its order about the preparation of explosions in Northern Caucasus If the Russian side has not given due value to this information, then it is its fault, noted by him. As a result of a series of explosions in Minvodi, Essentuki and Karachaevo-Cherkessia on March 24 were lost 23 and have received wounds approximately 150 person.
