Clashes in the north of Afghanistan

In the north of Afghanistan the forces of the Afghan governmental subdivisions launched an offensive against the major strongholds of the detachments of Ahmad Shakh Masoud.  Representatives of Shakh Masoud reported that they managed to repel an attack of Talibs in the province Balk. According to them fierce fighting continues in the province Balk, where Talibs have been pushed out of a number of settlements.  However, Islamic authorities of Afghanistan do not confirm this information.

According to official data the fighting still is characterized by sporadic nature.  No reports about success of the opposition and failure of the Islamic governmental forces are under mentioning.  On the contrary, in the last several days 8 commanders of the armed opposition together with 300 fighters went over to Talibs declaring that they did it consciously since Masoud and his circles act with the instructions of the enemies of Afghanistan.
