Very
often many Russian historians and scientists use in their “works” extracts
from a well-known book of a Muslim scientist “The journey of Ahmad Ibn Fadlan
to the river Itil and adoption of Islam in Bulgaria”. This
book describes a journey of Ahmad Ibn-Fadlan, a well-known leader of an embassy
of Baghdad Khalif Al-Muktadir to the river Volga to the state of Volgian
Bulgarians, the ancestors of Kazakh Tatarians
since they adopted Islam in the years 921-922.
Nikolai Podkhvatilin,
practising Russian psychologist, trainer of “Katarsis”, member of practical
psychology department of State Academy of Innovation of Russia found one
sentence in that work and uses it frequently in his works.
In an article “Research about psychophysical training of fighters in
Russia” he cites Ahmad Ibn Fadlan: “I saw Russes”, Ibn Fadlan, an Arabian
merchant, writes, “when they came with their goods and settled near Volga.
I haven't seen people as perfect in their physique, as if they were palm
trees.” And now let's look into
the mirror and ask ourselves, ”Do we pay enough attention to our body and
thoughts?" The Russian psychologist addressed
his audience with such a question...
I have also read that book.
This collection is called “At the junction of continents and
civilizations” (edited by Muslimov I.B).
So, Ibn Fadlan writes the following on same page, «Russes are the
dirtiest of the creatures of Allah. They
don’t clean themselves from feces, from urine, don’t wash from sexual
impurities and don’t wash their hands after eating.
They are like roaming donkeys. They
sail up from they country and moor their ships to the river Itil.
Itil is a big river and Russes build big houses from wood along its bank.
And they gather in one such a house from 10 to 20 people, sometimes more
sometimes less. Everyone there has
a long bench, on which they make themselves comfortable together with their
beautiful girls for selling. It
happened that one of the Russes desire to unite with his girl and his friend
stands and looks at them. Sometimes even a whole group observes watch them.
In the meantime a passing merchant comes in to buy a girl form one of
them and runs across a Russ who is doing that.
However, the Russ does not leave her until satisfies his requirements.
Everyday they wash their faces and heads with most dirty water in the
world it means the most unclean.
This happens in the following
way: in the morning one of the girls brings a big wash tub to his master.
He in turn washes his hands, face and his hairs in it.
He washes his hairs and combs them out into the wash tub.
Then, he blows his nose and spit into it in other words does everything
to make it dirty. When the master
finishes to wash, girl-servant takes the tub to the one who sits near and he
does the same that his friend has done. And
she does not stop bringing the dirty water from one person to other until she
brings it to all men present in that house. And all of them spit, blow their noses and wash faces in
it”... I
would like to appeal to the same audience, look into the mirror once more and
more attentively.
