Management
of “Free Europe-Liberty Radio” radio station in Prague is intending to
appeal to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in order to elucidate a
situation around the director of Ukraine service of radio ‘Liberty” Roman
Kupchinski. Kupchinski itself
stated that in the capital of Ukraine he was summoned to Security Service of
Ukraine (SSU) and was informed that he is not allowed to Ukraine the day before
he was going to leave the country. The director of the radio station Djef Trimbl
informed about the appeal of the radio leadership.
“That is all I can comment at the moment,” Trimbl remarked.
In
addition, Kupchinski stated that administration of the President Leonid Kuchma
is preparing to appeal to USA with a request to dismiss the head of the Ukraine
service of “Liberty’ that means him. In
relation to this director of radio station “Free Europe-Radio Liberty’’
declared that he has “no information or reports from Ukraine administration
related to this”. “I can state
that as a director I did not receive from Ukraine anything yet,” he remarked.
In
the opinion of Kupchinski itself the decision is related to statements of a
former major of Ukraine service of president Leonid Kuchma safeguarding Nikol
Melchenko on the radio station that is financed by American Congress.
Besides an interview with Melchenko, Ukraine service of radio
“Liberty” put on a broadcast fragment of tape-recording allegedly made by
him in the president’s cabinet
In
December of the last year Kupchinski stated that allegedly present leadership of
SSU sent a “request” to him asking more objectively inform about situation
around tape-records of Melchenko. In the words of Kupchinski, his interlocutor
remarked that “there is a definite discontent in the administration (of the
president) and in organs on how we (radio “Liberty’) report about events
around the tape-recording.
