Peacemakers adding oil into fire

Recently Turkey has started to play active role in Caucasian region.

A day or two ago, before vocations Turkish parliament published on English language book with very remarkable name, “Armenian in the period of Oman empire,” in which on base of sources form Oman archives authors remark groundless of thesis about the so-called total genocide of Armenians in years if first World war and opinions of foreign sources are also presented in it.

On presentation of the book chairman of Majlisul Omar Izgi reported that the book would be send to parliaments and libraries of other countries.  True, critical remarks and opposing opinions were also said.  Deputy of the parliament Buletin Akardjali considers that the book should be published and on Armenian language too and also on languages of neighboring countries.  Moreover, according to his opinion, direct contact with parliamentarians of Armenia must be set on.  Several politics and observers speak out for radical steps and establishment   of contacts with Armenia.

Foreign policy of Turkey in this issue became “hostage” of Armenian-Azerbaijan conflict, deputy Akardjali considers. Historian, professor Khavil Berktai for long time writes that “fact of genocide must be admitted and apologies should be presented to Armenia, because there is no other way to normalize relations with neighboring country and Turkey becomes target of Armenian lobby n West, in particular in France and USA.  People having identical opinions state that continuation of not constructed resistance causes only international irreconcilability although; on whole there is no Armenian phobia in Turkey.

Meanwhile, Turkish-Armenian business council at the head of chairman Kaan Soyak lately organized trip to Turkey for about 150 Armenians form USA that visited east region of Turkey and looked at places where at their times lived their fathers, they were gave heartily welcome and press did not boil with anger.  Soyak says that “nations diplomacy has its own minuses and pluses, but in any way, it makes ground for dialogs and takes away tramps form irreconcilable.”

On last week, representatives of Azerbaijan and Armenian mass media arrived to Ankara to take part in meeting that was organized with support of Soures Fund Turkish Fund of democracy. Guests of Trans Caucasus represented Baku’s and Yerevan press clubs and were surrounded with care of journalists’ community-international of Turkey.  It should be remarked that the guests arrived form Baku, where they carried out conference to discuss regional problems on last week.  In September, participants will gather already in Yerevan.  Turkish Armenian, Azerbaijan journalists touched problems of overcoming prejudices and preconceptions, which hamper nearing and contacts, and hold away peace form the region.

It turned out that Turkish journalists are badly informed about difficulties in achievement of trust between two Caucasian nations because they don’t have experience of constant contacts with countries of Caucasus.  For many people in Turkey Armenia remain unknown, even simple books and brochures about Armenia are not published.  Several dwellers can name you Istanbul Armenians-well-known artists, singers, journalists and even businessmen.

But they for hundreds years living in that town form some unknown reason cannot become bridge that could near Armenia and Turkey.  And the point is not only in that policy of Ankara is going along with interest of Baku.  Peace and prosperity is first of all unfavorable to Russia, which more often stare at east and south region as it is more actively forced out of Europe.  And open pro-Russian position of Armenia only aggravates general situation.  It is also evident that Armenia voluntarily remains hostage of Russian ambitions   on Caucasus.

However, hopes of Turkey are related to that ancient silk path will turn into oil and gas path and then its territory would become bridge between Asia and Europe and good times would establish on Caucasus in this way.  However, as Semikh Idzis said on the meeting this contradicts to interest of Russia that has no competitiveness technology and goods and it exports only weapons, discord and intrigues. And when peacemakers are the one that pours oil on the flames then journalists have only to state their good intentions.
