Actions
of Russia, which on Sunday made bombardment on Georgian territory in the region
of Marukh crossing, there is no justification whatsoever, stated at his press
conference in Tbilisi by President of Georgia, Eduard Shevardnadze. According to
him, «Russian side bombed village Omalo and part of Kodori Gorge on the basis
of no reason in its time». In the opinion of the President of Georgia, «this
is very poor symptom», which confirms that the statement of the President RF,
Vladimir Putin – it is one, and action of individual Russian Generals and
officers – another. He noted, «in connection with the several facts of the
bombardment of Georgian territory, his protest must reach "the hearing of
those Russian leaders, who were obligated to make the appropriate conclusions».
The
President said that Georgia sincerely desires normal, and good-neighborly
relations with Russia, taking into account its interests; however, «the
continuation of present situation is impossible». In the opinion of Eduard
Shevardnadze, specific Russian forces provoke the continuous bombardments of
Georgian territory. The President of Georgia considers that if he had the chance
to hold a meeting with Putin, the issue of these destructive forces will be main
subject of negotiations. As informed Eduard Shevardnadze, for the need of
holding the meeting of heads of two states will be appointed the representatives
of the administrations of the Presidents of the Georgia and Russia, and also
parliamentary circles. On the statement of Edward Shevardnadze, he is now ready
to meet Russian counterpart; however, the fate of this meeting depends on
Vladimir Putin.
Shevardnadze
yet not expressed his concern over the Sunday bombardments of Georgia, as came
report about the new attacks of Russian aviation at Georgian villages. Aircraft
Su-25, which entered on Monday from the side of Russia into airspace of the
Georgia, dropped bombs in the vicinities located not far from Marukh crossing of
Georgian villages of Adzgara and Ptishi. About this was reported in the press
center of the ministry of defense of the Georgia. Information about the victims
and the destruction from the region of Marukh crossing did not so far enter.
According to the data of the press center of defense of the Georgia, the
Georgian population Of Kodori valley, they require arrival into this region of
international and Russian experts so that those would be convinced of the fact
that there are no hits whatever.
The
question about the bombardments of Georgian territory must be examined at the
level OSCE and other international organizations, considers the
chairman
of parliament
of the Georgia, Zurab Zhvania. Zhvania stated in his briefing in Tbilisi, that
the reaction of official Tbilisi to each similar fact would be «extremely sharp».
According to him, we intend to raise the question about the violations of
airspace of the Georgia before the Russian deputies. Zurab Zhvania expressed
hope that the State Duma of RF will adequately
estimate these facts. No Georgian parliamentarian will ever recommend violation
of airspace of country and bombardments of Georgian territory, under whatever
pretext this was done, said Zurab Zhvania.
Meanwhile,
Russia in the categorically denies the fact of its participation in bombardments
of Georgia. Sukhumi also does not take its responsibility. As stated to Georgian
agency of Prime-News by first assistant of the Abkhaz Defence Minister, Givi
Agrba, during recent days, Abkhazian combat aircrafts «did not move at all from
the place». According to him, the authorities of Georgia must themselves
explain - who carries on bombardments of Georgian territory.
In
the traditional interview to national radio on Monday, Eduard Shevardnadze so
denied the possibility of the fact that raids made on Georgia by aircraft and
helicopters might belong to Abkhazian side. The President of Georgia emphasized
that these aircrafts and helicopters invaded airspace of the country precisely
from the side of Russia.
