Aggravation of situation in Georgia

Employees of MGB of Georgia entered in office of telecompany «Rustavi-2» and, having showed the appropriate permission of court, have demanded the financial documentation.

The chairman of parliament, Zurab Zhvania calls Interior Minister, Kakha Targamadze and General public prosecutor, George Meparishvili for resignation from their posts. Zurab Zhvania on Wednesday in a briefing addressed to the president of the country, Eduard Shevardnadze so that he has made the decision on their resignation as this step will unload the usual situation and will allow avoiding of further destabilization.

Zurab Zhvania is sure, that on an emergency meeting of parliament on Thursday the most part of fractions will support a question on resignation of some heads of power departments as their actions have caused disturbance in the country.
As he said, the position of tens thousand citizens has confirmed, that restriction of the freedom of speech will not be allowed in the country. «The Parliament should solve one specific target, in particular, that in Georgia nobody will lift a hand on freedom of speech», - he noted.

On Tuesday employees of MGB of Georgia entered in office of a broadcasting company «Rustavi-2» and, having showed the appropriate permission of court, have demanded to give out to them the financial documentation of a broadcasting company.  The management of broadcasting company has compelled employees of MGB to leave the office. The management of «Rustavi-2» declares, that employees of MGB of Georgia carried out certain «political order». In the evening on Tuesday in Tbilisi, meetings of protest against approach of authorities to free press, which on Wednesday have overflowed the central part of capital, have begun.

The resolution with the demand of resignation of the president of the country, parliament and the most odious ministers was passed on Wednesday in the evening by participants of mass meeting before a building of the supreme legislature of Georgia. In the resolution, it is marked, that authorities have sunk the country in heavy political and social crisis, and territorial integrity of Georgia has been broken.  In the country, corruption at all levels is growing, as was marked in the document. Authorities of the country by means of political pressure upon a television news company «Rustavi-2» have encroached on single thing which has left with the people - freedom of speech, as spoken in the resolution.

Participants of meeting have demanded immediate resignation of the president of the country, convocation by parliament of extraordinary session, on which in their opinion, the amendment to the Constitution of the country should be passed, allowing selection of the president by national referendum.
Participants of the meeting demanded for implementation of the democratic law for elections and realization in the country of pre-scheduled presidential and parliamentary elections.

In the meantime, resigning on Wednesday from the post the Georgian Security Minister, Vakhtang Kutateladze declares, that the his decision was taken by him due to the fact that in the country are becoming ripe «very dangerous tendencies» and does not exclude in this connection the beginning of «irreversible processes». The announcement of resignation by head of MGB of Georgia was made on Wednesday at session of council of national safety of Georgia. President Eduard Shevardnadze presiding at session has accepted resignation of minister. As is considered in itself MGB of Georgia, filing of the criminal case concerning «Rustavi-2», some political groups have apprehended as attempt of rendering of political pressure upon free press.

Meanwhile, Vakhtang Kutateladze considers, that statements of management of «Rustavi-2» that employees of MGB demanded handover of the appropriate financial documentation of this broadcasting company by it in infringement of the law, has no real bases. Everyone will be convinced of an inaccuracy of such statements after promulgation of the conclusion of the State Office of Public Prosecutor of the country, as considered in MGB of Georgia.

In announcement of MGB circulated on Wednesday, it is spoken, that the management of the ministry does not oppose to «the fourth authority» in the country. Meanwhile, part of deputies of parliament on a background of events of last days in the political ends tries to discredit management of MGB to incite public opinion against it.
Vakhtang Kutateladze declares, that all this is dirty attempt to charge with the responsibility for an aggravation of conditions for executive authority.

In his opinion, already were marked those political forces trying to create destabilization of conditions in the country. All the same will finish as it already was in Georgia ten years back, declares Vakhtang Kutateladze. These political forces, he considers, want to use MGB and its management for their purposes. Because of bad memory, they can envisage those processes, which can begin in Georgia, former head of MGB declares.
